NexWafe makes the silicon at the heart of space solar power systems: radiation-resistant wafers, produced in the West. Space solar has a supply problem. Silicon degrades considerably under radiation, III-V cells are expensive and capacity-constrained, and almost all of the world’s wafer supply sits in Asia. NexWafe solves this at the wafer level. Our EpiNex process grows ultra-thin silicon wafers directly from gas, with no ingot, no saw and no kerf loss. Because each wafer is built layer by layer, we can engineer its thickness and radiation resistance, so cells keep more of their power over the full mission life.
