News-Leader Information

It is distributed in the morning, seven days a week. The Springfield News-Leader began as a weekly publication called the The Springfield Leader on April 4, 1867. After several changes in name and ownership, the paper became known as theSpringfield Daily News in January 1927. In February 1933, the newspaper moved to its current property on Boonville, between Chestnut and Tampa. Fire consumed most of the operating plant in March 1947 and Springfield Newspapers, Inc. rebuilt on the site in 1948. The paper was sold to Gannett Co.in May of 1977. In 1987 the afternoon edition of the paper was discontinued and consolidated with the morning edition to become the Springfield News-Leader. A new five-story state of the art MAN Roland offset press was installed in 2002, significantly improving the production speed and print quality. Today, the Springfield News-Leader is combined with a number of other print publications, websites and digital marketing services as part of the News-Leader Media Group. This group is the largest multi-media marketing solutions company in Southwest Missouri, serving the local and regional business community.
