Mercer University Pipes and Drums was formed in April 1998. Some of its original members came from the Culloden (Georgia) Pipes and Drums, which had been under the leadership of, and received many contributions from, Pipe Major Sam Ferguson. The purpose of the Mercer University Pipes and Drums is to introduce students and members of the community to the distinctive music and culture of the Celtic tradition, especially that of the Scottish Highlands, and to strengthen the technical and performance skills of its members.
