MUD (Mobilizing & Uniting Development) is a Non-governmental organisation (NGO) with the overarching goal is to improve the living conditions of poor households by providing technical support and guidance in the development and usage of environmentally friendly construction materials and by promoting equal land rights. MUD Africa was originated in 2008 in Nairobi where the founders Johanna Lagerborg and Maria de la Guardia met during their involvement in the United Nations Human Settlement Program. The organization has ever since developed and was recognized as an official NGO in Sweden in October 2011. MUD Africa constantly works with enhancing and promoting equal land rights and is in the process of networking internationally to establish new projects and programs for a sustainable future, each designed to grow on a larger scale, while participants gain more responsibility until a full handover. Furthermore MUD Africa works to act in partnership with larger initiatives and global programs such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Millennium Villages Project (MVPs), with the intention to serve as a complement for broader and more comprehensive poverty eradication strategies. Since the beginning of 2012 our work is focused towards Malawi in partnership with the local NGO Lilongwe Urban Poor People’s Network (LUPPEN).
