She previously owned Spare Parts, a handmade jewelry store in Los Angeles, specializing in custom jewelry that could be easily assembled by either Julie's staff or the customers themselves. The store was always busy from the minute it opened in the morning, and was packed on weekends. With the birth of Julie's twin boys, she discovered the natural desire we all have to proudly show off our beautiful children, and tell our story through our jewelry. Spare Parts started offering bracelets, key chains and necklaces engraved with names of children, as well as words such as "Mommy" or "Grandma. Julie decided to call this new line of specially personalized jewelry "Mommy Jewelry" since so many new mommies were buying them. There was even a special section in the shop featuring all of the "Mommy Jewelry" items. This new line became incredibly popular, and everyone knew where to go for the newest items to celebrate the birth of their child or grandchild, niece, nephew, godchild, etc. Customers could assemble a simple keychain with letters spelling out a name, choose boy or girl charms to string on a necklace, or the store could customize a beautiful sterling and crystal bracelet to fit them perfectly. Julie also began offering a line of stamped jewelry, customized with names, words, and short phrases. These also became an instant hit, and Julie received hundreds of orders within just a few weeks! The line was so popular; Julie decided to open an online store, making it available to customers outside of her shop in Los Angeles. Thus, mommyjewelry.com was created, serving mommies all over the world! In fact, mommyjewelry.com became such a hit; Julie made the decision to close Spare Parts so she could focus exclusively on Mommy Jewelry.
