Mining Equipment Manufacturers of SA (MEMSA) is an industry cluster organisation for South African manufacturers of Mining Equipment. The cluster was established in 2016 as an NPC with support and encouragement of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), and has since grown in membership and operations. We work closely with partners in the public and private sectors to promote a competitive, sustainable South African mining supply chain. Facilitating technology development is a key focus of the cluster, and our primary partner in this regard is the Mandela Mining Precinct (MMP) and its South African Mining Extraction Research, Development and Innovation (SAMERDI) programmes. MEMSA’s members contribute significantly to local job creation, business development, skills development, technical development and innovation, as well as exports. Of our nearly 70 members, 75% are SMEs, over 60% are 51% or more black owned, and we count 16 rising black industrialists among our members - six heading up medium and large companies. Our members export into SADC, as well as Central and West Africa, South America, India, Central Europe and Australia.
