Memory Wax Dance Information

MEMORY WAX is a dance and theatre company with a strong visual expression. Through simplicity we experience and develop movement and ideas in a new perspective. Our work is based on human relationships, the uniqueness of the individuals and the need for contact and love. We are inspired by the fleeting nature of existence, the power of fragility and the will to reach, understand and free ourselves from limitations. Miguel Azcue and Johanna Jonasson established Memory Wax in Malmö in 2004. Miguel Azcue was born in Havanna, Cuba in 1967. His dance education started in Cuba at Escuela nacional de Danza and later on at the University of Utah in the US. He has worked as a dancer in various professional companies around the world; Retazos Dance Company/Cuba, National Company/Ecuador, Ririewoodbury Dance Company/USA, Carte Blanche/Norway and Philippe Blanchard/Sweden. Miguel's choreographic work has been performed in North and South America, Europe and Australia and has won two choreographic competitions with the pieces "Fe" (Dansolution I in Denmark, 2004) and "Desert" (Certamen Coreografico de Compostela in Spain, 2005). His latest piece "Desert" has also been selected to participate in Aerowaves in London in January 2006. Johanna Jonasson was born in Malmö, Sweden in 1974. Her dance education started at Malmö Stadsteaters Balettelevskola and later on at the Swedish Ballet School and Unversity of Dance in Stockholm. She has worked as a dancer in various professionals companies and with frelance choreographers; Philippe Blanchard/ Sweden, Carte Blanche/ Norway, Ina-Christel Johannessen/ Norway, Dorte Olessen/ Sweden and Retazos Dance Company/ Cuba. Johanna's choreographic work "Cuatro Esquinas" and "Wo-Man", both pieces in cooperation with Miguel Azcue, have been performed in Cuba, Ecuador, Spain and Sweden.
