Mat Bevel Company reveals the magnificent potential of resourcefulness using A.R.T.—Available Resource Technology. We inspire people of all ages to cultivate greater awareness, ingenuity and purpose through found-object kinetic art, theater and hands-on learning experiences. Our work builds a deeper connection to art, science, education and our culture through: Museum of Kinetic Art—Ninety-two mechanical sculptures demonstrate how even junk can become something of beauty and purpose Surrealistic Pop Science Theater—A one-man performance celebrates the excitement of creativity with 52 characters, and the kinetic sculptures from the museum choreographed to music, light and poetry School of Intuition—A kinesthetic learning lab teaches students to create things of lasting value with original thinking and resourcefulness Bevelvision Productions—Internet theater explores the realm of Beveldom, a state of wonder where discarded and forgotten objects from this world find magical new life Mat Bevel Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that shares the art, science and philosophy of kinetic sculptor, poet and performer Ned Schaper. To encourage innovation, he uses only what’s available—found objects—as the raw materials for his sculptures, along with his understanding of mechanics, physics and insect flight dynamics. The sculptures in the Museum of Kinetic Art are headdresses, motorized vehicles, musical instruments and mechanical puppets used in live performances and Bevelvision Productions. Content draws upon Schaper's narrative "The Three Days of Beveldom" which contains 440 poems. The story takes place in the magical world of Beveldom under the guidance of a fictional leader named “Mat Bevel.” The theater’s archetypal characters, with names like Walter Ego, Jester Physics, The New Non-Prophet and Dr. Paradox, help people see themselves and our culture in a brilliant new way using poetry, puns, physics and comedy.
