The Municipal Association of Victoria is the peak representative and advocacy body for Victoria's 79 councils. The MAV was formed in 1879 and the Municipal Association Act 1907 anointed the MAV the official voice of local government in Victoria. Today, the MAV is a driving and influential force behind a strong and strategically positioned local government sector. Our role, broadly speaking is to represent and advocate the interests of local government, lobby for a 'fairer deal' for councils, raise the sector's profile, ensure its long-term security and provide policy advice, strategic advice, capacity building programs and insurance services to local government. The success of the MAV stems from its people and the Association has prided itself on building a quality team of staff and consultants to ensure that the needs of its members are met, and that the MAV is well positioned to fulfil its purpose. Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the national body representing planning and the planning profession. Through education, communication and professional development, PIA is the pivotal organisation serving and guiding thousands of planning professionals in their role of creating better communities. PIA currently represents approximately 4800 members nationally and internationally, and connects with 7500 planners annually. We are governed by a National Board of Directors and managed by a professional administration. We are a member-based organisation with its management complemented by volunteers, who support and contribute to our activities on various levels. Local Government NSW is the peak organisation that represents the interests of NSW general and special purpose councils. LGNSW aims to strengthen and protect an effective, democratic system of local government across NSW by supporting and advocating on behalf of member councils and delivering a range of relevant, quality services. LGNSW achieves this by: • Actively and persuasively representing the views of local government to the NSW and Australian governments • Providing effective, responsive and accountable leadership to member councils • Providing a comprehensive range of high-quality services and policy advice to members • Increasing the capacity of local government to deliver quality services and meet the needs of local communities across NSW • Enhancing the profile and building community trust in and awareness of local government.
