Good Cycles Information

In Australia today there are alarming numbers of vulnerable people experiencing long-term unemployment, homelessness, mental illness, social isolation, obesity and other difficult issues. Bicycles and the bicycle industry at large can play a meaningful part in meeting the needs of these people. At Good Cycles, our mission is to engage, empower, educate and employ those with significant barriers to getting ahead in life. And we believe the humble bicycle is an excellent vehicle for facilitating this important work. What do we do? It’s all about bikes, bikes and more bikes. Good Cycles is a social enterprise. We run a range of bicycle-based enterprises to help support our mission. Our bike-based businesses include: a retail store, service centre, mobile mechanics, fleet maintenance, event support and maintenance workshops. Our bicycle enterprises, as well as philanthropic grants and donations, help to fund our all our community programs. With your support, whether it’s through getting your bike serviced with us, or by giving us a tax-deductible donation, we can reach this goal. We are 100% non-profit and a registered charity (all donations are tax deductible). The groups we work with include: Disengaged and socially isolated youth Asylum seekers and newly arrived refugees People with mental health issues People with physical health issues People at risk of homelessness Long-term unemployed Public housing residents All the bicycle-based programs we operate have been designed to: Provide vocational training Develop employment pathways Build resilience and reduce social isolation Encourage regular physical activity Give participants a low-cost & sustainable transport option Support people in making positive life choices
