Mai Wiru Regional Stores Council Aboriginal Corporation is unique in that was started by community members on the APY Lands with a desire to have their nutritional needs better met through their local stores. Since 1998 when the survey that led to the development of the policy found a quarter of a mouldy cabbage as the entire fruit and vegetable section of one store, Mai Wiru has worked with the stores to stock a far greater variety and quantity of fresh, frozen and tinned fruit and vegetables in all the stores that can adequately meet the communities nutritional needs.
