Legado is a women-led, global nonprofit that works alongside Indigenous, Afro-descendent, and local communities as they define what legacy means for their people and place, and carry that vision forward for generations to come. Over more than a decade, that work has shaped Thriving Futures, Legado’s practical methodology for turning community priorities into sustainable action. Thriving Futures takes a 360° view of community life, recognizing that health, livelihoods, culture, education, governance, and the environment are deeply connected. We call this lens 360° Thriving: a way of seeing and shaping the full picture, rather than treating community priorities in isolation. Because when action is grounded in the leadership, vision, and wisdom of local communities, positive outcomes are sustained—and benefit local community members first and foremost. Across Legado’s work alongside more than 100 communities on three continents, 90% of the community priorities identified through Thriving Futures have been taken up by local governments or institutions, and 97% have secured follow-on funding. Legado’s direct community work continues in Peru, Kenya, Mozambique, Indonesia, and South Africa. At the same time, we are preparing for our next chapter: Thriving Futures Everywhere. Beginning in 2029, Thriving Futures Everywhere will expand access to the methodology, tools, and learning community, making it available for organizations and communities to use and adapt independently.
