Lake Technology was founded in 1991 by Brian Conolly and David McGrath. Lake invented and patented low latency digital convolution using Fourier techniques, (a process considered impossible at the time by its peers). In 1991 the Lake FDP-1 was the first product to process Lake Convolution, and with seconds of impulse response, making it possible to audition large virtual room acoustics. Later products, including the Huron, processed several channels of convolution with animated soundscapes for audio virtual reality, auralisation and ambisonics. As technology got faster, Lake Convolution was used to build surround sound over headphones which was later licensed to Dolby and called Dolby Headphone. Further audio technology was developed for live sound processing, as directed by the late Bruce Jackson in combination with engineers Stewart Bartlett, Marcus Altman and co-founder David McGrath. Lake Technology was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1999 and was later acquired by Dolby Laboratories. It is now known as Dolby Australia. Lake Audio Processing is now licensed by Lab.gruppen.
