In 1937, a few grocery store owners came together with the idea to use their combined size and strength to provide customers with the products they wanted at the low prices they needed. On April 20, 1937, Key Food Stores Co-operative, Inc. was formed and has since grown to over 265 supermarkets spanning all five boroughs, Long Island, upstate New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania with over $2.7 billion in annual sales. Times have changed but the values that Key Food was founded on have not. All Key Food stores are still individually owned and operated, which allows them to meet the diverse needs of each neighborhood.
