Keliber is a Finnish mining and battery chemical company that aims to start the sustainable production of battery-grade lithium hydroxide, utilising its own ore. Our product is an essential component in lithium-ion batteries, which enable the electrification of transportation, the storage of renewable energy and speed up digitalisation. Our work powers people to choose for climate. Keliber operates in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland, where some of the most significant lithium deposits in Europe are found. For future mining and production, we plan to utilise the best available technologies, minimise the environmental impact of our operations and ensure the conditions necessary for the circular economy. The construction phase of the lithium project is scheduled to start in early 2023 and the production ramp-up in 2025. The lithium mines are located in the municipalities of Kaustinen, Kokkola and Kronoby, where a concentrator is also being built. The lithium hydroxide refinery will be located in Kokkola Industrial Park, which has excellent transportation connections. The construction phase is estimated to employ up to 500 people. Once production is up and running, Keliber’s own personnel will total 200 industry professionals, and almost 100 will be employed through contractors. Keliber is a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater, a multinational mining and metals Group, with Finnish Minerals Group as the second largest shareholder, a state-owned company developing the value chain of lithium-ion batteries.
