Is your child struggling to read and write? Do they need help to organize and write essays? Or do they need maths support? Not all children find learning easy. Often small gaps are left in their learning that are not noticed until they reach higher levels. The Karinya Support Programs are designed to specifically address and fill these gaps, by providing individualised programs in the foundations of literacy and maths. Our results have shown when these foundation gaps are filled there is frequently a huge advancement in students' performance, as well as positive improvement in their self-esteem and confidence. This then leads to an increased motivation to learn and succeed in other areas, both at school and in life. In designing an individualised literacy program, in addition to any previous assessments by an Educational Psychologist or a Speech Pathologist, we first assess the child's abilities to determine their strengths and needs. We cater for students who have attention and short term sequential memory difficulties or other language disorders, such as dyslexia and auditory processing. A written report will give recommendations that can be shared with the child's teacher or other medical professionals, and the individualised program is prepared. Each session in the individualised 20 week literacy program builds on the previous one, and parents will see their child's improvement easily through the use of checklists. In turn, as the student sees that they are progressing through various levels quickly, their confidence grows. At the end of the 20 week program, another short assessment will be done so that a comparison can be made and further recommendations given. An initial assessment will help determine the child's strengths and needs. These will then be addressed within the individualised program and can be shared with the child's teacher and other professionals.
