The implications of this for the audio industry are potentially very significant. Digital recording has been the industry standard since the early 1980s, and it is efficient and convenient. However, many artists and audiophiles deplore the loss of the fuller analogue sound which dominated up to that period, and this is reflected, for example, in vinyl’s greatly resurgent popularity. As mentioned above, in addition to the analogue recovery and preservation processes, a further advance is the ability to do this in small downloadable file sizes, similar to those used for download of digital tracks from iTunes and other platforms. These small files sizes preserve the quality of the true lossless analogue sound even when processed through the streamer’s codec.
