For 34 years, the Family Giving Tree has been uplifting Bay Area families who face financial hardship by supporting them with school supply-filled backpacks and wished-for holiday gifts. What started as a San Jose State MBA project to help in-need children has grown steadily into an established, widely respected, nonprofit organization. Since its start in 1990, Family Giving Tree has served over 2,000,000 children and adults throughout the greater Bay Area. We dream of inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism to impact our community. With the invaluable support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers and drive leaders, Family Giving Tree leads two major drives each year. The Holiday Wish Drive fulfills children’s exact holiday gift wishes, and Back-to-School Drive provides backpacks filled with school supplies to K-12 children most in need.

Tutor Corps has been in the education business since 2002, providing individualized support to students in grades K-12 for subjects ranging from English, math, social studies, and science to enrichment and remediation. Years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Tutor Corps transitioned to the virtual setting and honed best practices to ensure that our virtual support replicated the most crucial elements of the in-person tutoring experience. Tutor Corps believes in the power of 1:1 direct support, relationship-building, communication, and quality educators. To that end, our trusted management team has hand-picked a corps of talented instructors who, in addition to being experts in their fields or credentialed teachers, care deeply about the “whole student” experience and have gone through a 10 point vetting process. Our management team is dedicated to ensuring that our tutors are trained, supported, and empowered to support students, whether academically or socio-emotionally, as well as to building strong relationships with our partner schools, students, and families. We serve students with a range of needs, whether they need more academic challenge, culturally-relevant content, foundation skills development, skills to support with executive functioning, or extra support due to a learning disability. A passion for learning is contagious. We strive to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities. To advance this goal, we have established the Tutor Corps Foundation. The Foundation awards grants and scholarships to addressing the needs of under-served students.

Episcopal Charities supports new and existing nonprofit agencies in their effort to make a crucial difference in the lives of poor, oppressed and endangered individuals in need in the San Francisco Bay Area, regardless of their religious affiliation or practice. History In a sense, Episcopal Charities is as old as the Episcopal Church in California (over 150 years) because outreach to the poor, the oppressed and the endangered has always been a principal concern of the Episcopal community. Around 1977 Episcopal Charities was identified as a separate division within the Episcopal diocese. Marc Handley Andrus, the Eighth Bishop of California in The Episcopal Church, has been serving as the board chair for Episcopal Charities since 2006 when he was installed as the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California. Under Bishop Marc's leadership, Episcopal Charities has sought to engage with communities and become more relevant than ever through the use of Action Networks. We operate Action Networks that focus on healthcare, education, and environment, drawing people who are interested in working together to address the root causes of poverty. Action Network members give hands-on support to projects that they identify, and we award grants to the qualified agencies and initiatives that run those programs.
