Our mission is to increase independence and reduce the isolation of immigrant and refugee women by teaching them basic English and practical living skills in the security of their own homes. Our volunteers provide one-on-one instruction in the student's home. This provides the opportunity for a unique relationship between volunteers, students and their families. Teachers can personalize lessons and homework to meet goals. Together, weekly successes are celebrated, empowering students to achieve long-term goals. Classes are one hour, twice a week in the student's home Classes are scheduled around volunteer's availability and location Volunteers participate in the process of being matched with the perfect student Teachers enjoy seeing student process and making a direct impact During 2017, IRWP had a 65% increase in services from 2016. So far in 2018, 365 volunteers have provided English and practical living skills for 366 students, helped 10 students earn U.S. citizenship and conducted 9,134 hours of one-on-one instruction through September.
