We work with communities to accelerate the power and potential of women, girls and youth-preparing them to be active leaders and social entrepreneurs creating sustainable solutions within their communities. Why We Do It Uganda is ranked 3rd in the world for the country with the highest economic dependency rate (99.5%). This is attributed to multiple barriers including the extremely high youth unemployment - 83% for people aged 15-24 years old. Despite the numerous efforts to reduce this trend, economic dependency among women and girls remains high as a result of limited access to resources such as capital, land, and the skills needed to get employment. As a result, women and girls are unable to access economic opportunities, quality education, and health care services. The continuing trend of economic dependency pushes women and girls to adopt other means of survival, such as working odd jobs, early marriages, and sticking to abusive relationships. Ultimately, women and girls are susceptible to gender-based violence and gender inequality, maternal and infant mortality if the problem is not tackled. What We Do At the core of our model is the belief that those we work with decide what they want to do and choose the support and resources they need to do it. We partner with communities, particularly women and youth groups, and implement a human-centered impact model that equips them with the skills they need to respond to the needs and challenges in their communities. How We Do It IH aims to provide young vulnerable women and youth with a robust innovation skillset and essential resources to create sustainable social ventures and social impact. We do this through: Social Enterprise & Innovation Incubator: We invest in young women and youth as builders of transformative solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s pressing problems through tailored design thinking, adaptive leadership, and social entrepreneurship training coupled with direct lean start-up financing
