ADVANCING HISPANIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SOUTHEASTERN CONNECTICUT COMMUNITY Founded in May 2000 by a diverse group of dedicated colleagues from Latin America, the Hispanic Alliance has grown into a dynamic, innovative organization - bringing communities together through a broad range of initiatives and events, providing educational opportunities, health care advocacy, economic support, civic engagement, arts and cultural experiences. From the beginning the Hispanic Alliance, a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization has created programs and initiatives by working collaboratively to advance the Hispanic contribution to the Southeastern Connecticut community. 2001 EDUCATION. Established an annual program that to date has awarded 275 higher education scholarships to aspiring Hispanic students. 2003 EMERGENCY FUNDS. Issued over 1,000 micro grants since creating the Starfish Emergency Fund for families in need. 2003 SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENTS. Created the Scholarships Endowment to ensure sustainability of the program. 2007 STARFISH ENDOWMENT. Created the Starfish Endowment for emergency funds to ensure sustainability of the program. 2008 ARTS & CULTURE. Established a focus on arts & culture through museum and gallery exhibitions, performances and lectures. 2012 WOMEN & GIRLS. Founded La Latina Network with a lifespan perspective that honors our intergenerational solidarity and promote education, leadership, 2014 HEALTH. Created health initiatives focused on health care access and equity through research, education and advocacy by collaborating with regional, state and national institutions. 2015 - 2019 EXPANSION. Through our health initiatives; created the Community Alliance for Health Equity and the Hispanic Alliance Mental Health Network; La Latina Network has expanded its support for Hispanic Women & Girls to include a scholarship program and a summer Leadership Workshop for high school students.
