The company was originally formed as a manufacturing company by Hart (Pty) Ltd in 1892. Hart saw to the production of general light metal pressing work and production of aluminium homeware. In 1912 (20 years later), Hendler & Hendler (Pty) Ltd was established and produced a variety of stainless steel finished goods, primarily in the cookware sector. Then in 1989 the two companies merged to become Hendler & Hart (Pty) Ltd, capitalising on one another's strengths and drawing on their rich legacies of the past to become the leading producer of homeware in South Africa.
