Helm Information

For four decades, Helm has been working at a grassroots level with young people in Dundee to address the inequalities that many young people are facing. Every year, the staff and volunteers at Helm help over two hundred and fifty young people transition into adult life. We do this by providing practical, direct support, whether that is through helping young people going to college, starting a job, taking an apprenticeship or moving into a home. Helm are a fully accredited SQA centre offering a choice of National Progression Awards, Employment Awards and Coreskills. We have offer in-house enterprises, including a training garage and working salon, to enable young people to gain valuable work experience. We also workwith employers throughout Dundee who provide work experience to our young people. We support young people into employment by helping them create their CV, completing job applications and doing interview preparation with them. We can help with the more practical side of employment including providing the financial resources to attend the interview and to be able to dress appropriately. We support young people to achieve their potential. We treat every young person as an individual, working with them holistically to create a tailored and personalised training and development plan to give them the skills and confidence to enter the world of work. Young people at Helm can obtain qualifications, gain work experience, prepare for employment and access further education whilst being fully supported through the different stages.
