Victory... Forged by Test! Where it all begins, the center of the aerospace testing universe. We plan and execute developmental test and evaluation of advanced aerospace systems – with world-class installation and mission support – to sharpen American airpower for the warfighter. Home of the world's largest runway, the 412th Test Wing at Edwards plans, conducts, analyzes, and reports on all flight and ground testing of aircraft, weapons systems, software and components as well as modeling and simulation for the U.S. Air Force. There are three core components for this mission: flying operations, maintenance and engineering. A team of over 11,000 consisting of active duty, federal civilian and contractor support works shoulder-to-shoulder to execute this mission at Edwards Air Force Base, USAF Plant 42, and deployed detachments across the globe.

À l’ère de la mondialisation, les notions de sécurité et de conflits ont évolué. Ce constat impose des réorientations stratégiques dans l’utilisation des moyens de défense au sein et à l’extérieur de notre pays. La stratégie de défense et de sécurité nationale est aujourd’hui définie grâce à cinq grandes fonctions stratégiques : connaître et anticiper, prévenir, dissuader, protéger, intervenir. Dans ce cadre, le rôle du ministère de la Défense est d’assurer la protection du territoire, de la population et des intérêts français. Il répond aussi à d’autres missions dans le cadre des accords et traités internationaux (OTAN) ou régionaux (Europe de la défense). Au delà de ces missions, le ministère de la Défense s’implique également dans des missions de service public.Ses moyens humains et matériels soutiennent ou suppléent les actions d’autres ministères, au quotidien ou dans l’urgence, sur le territoire national et à l’étranger.
