Το Πολεμικό Ναυτικό έχει ως αποστολή την διεξαγωγή των αναγκαίων αεροναυτικών επιχειρήσεων και έργων εν ειρήνη και εν πολέμω δια την εξασφάλιση Εθνικών αντικειμενικών σκοπών της αρμοδιότητός του και σε συνεργασία με τους άλλους Κλάδους των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων επί τω σκοπώ της συμβολής στην αποτροπή εχθρικής επιθέσεως, στην διατήρηση της ακεραιότητας της χώρας, στην προάσπιση των Εθνικών συμφερόντων και στην επίτευξη των επιδιώξεων της εν ισχύει Πολιτικής Εθνικής Αμύνης γενικότερα. Δια την εκπλήρωση της αποστολής του, το Πολεμικό Ναυτικό αξιοποιεί την θαλάσσια ισχύ του Έθνους και διαθέτει από του καιρού της ειρήνης προσωπικό και μέσα, τα οποία συμπληρώνονται, όπως απαιτείται, μετά από στρατιωτική και πολιτική επιστράτευση. Hellenic Navy's goals are to protect the Hellenic rights and border integrity, protect commercial sea-lines, and cultivate a spirit of security to the Hellenic population of the Greek islands. In addition, HN has the role of the transporter of supplies for the rest of the units of the armed forces, and contributes mainly through Air transport to servicing the health needs of the population of the islands. The presence of the navy in the islands and especially in those of the eastern Aegean sea and the area of Corfu is constant. Hellenic Navy ships carry out patrolling missions in order to deal with any possible external threat and provide support to the Hellenic Coast Guard in delicate situations such as preventing illegal immigration, drug smuggling etc.
