HeatHack Information

HeatHack helps community groups to understand energy efficiency, heat loss, and thermal comfort in their premises. Our goal is to empower these organisations to have the right conversations with the professionals they engage, leading to better outcomes for the buildings and the communities they serve. We currently have funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering's Ingenious programme for a project that matches volunteers who are qualified in any engineering discipline to community buildings. With help from the engineers, the groups will consider what a net zero future means for their buildings in four structured sessions, resulting in a proposed plan. The sessions will help groups decide the best way to use the building to meet their community's needs, understand what changes the building needs to be fit for this purpose, and plan to make that happen. The groups will then run a community engagement event to get wider community input. Although the programme will not offer professional advice, it will give groups the confidence to move forward and the essential knowledge to avoid some costly mistakes.
