Increasing demands on communication in our society renders loss of hearing a serious handicap; it limits appeal in the job market, reduces work participation, results in economic damage to the company and social isolation for the individual. Our company focuses on maintaining good and healthy hearing for people who are exposed to noise i.e. loud music, machines, equipment etc. Chemical substances are also damaging to our hearing such as solvents, ototoxic medication and carbon monoxide. Major risk groups include youngsters, musicians and workers active in numerous sectors involving inter-alia engineering, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, security, entertainment, and recreation. Preventing hearing damage is a complex challenge that requires a multipronged approach. This requires the application of a multi-disciplined team with continuous consultation and deliberation between the various experts. Experience has taught us that in practice this is not happening to the extent it should be. Our solution to this is HearingCoach, launched in 2003. This innovation equips a single professional, the HearingCoach, with the necessary expertise and disciplines from all areas related to hearing conservation. The HearingCoach is responsible for the implementation, execution and control of our hearing care program, which exceeds the historical approach to this challenge: -- Safety, health and wellbeing of the person involved are central. -- Risk management based on the 4-Leaf Clover Method. -- Innovative tools and techniques, especially the OHC-Scan. This new approach, and program, is the product of extensive consultation and research with opinion leaders, policy makers, professionals, health care insurers and numerous interest groups and companies. It is now a proven methodology that has been proclaimed “Best Practice” by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (OSHA Europe).
