HATCX is an innovation lab that develops new ideas to help people better navigate and access healthcare. It started as a challenge within Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska and came up with the concept of an app that made health care easier to understand and navigate. The team was asked to continue building out their ideas under Genesys Innovations LLC, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, and HATCX was born. In May 2017, HATCX's first app, HATCX | cost, was released on iTunes and Google Play. The app is free and includes features such as a cost transparency tool, doctor finder, and the ability to rate and review providers and facilities. In the year since the app launched, HATCX | cost has gained nearly 10,000 downloads and currently averages 4.25 (out of five) stars in both app stores. Data shows HATCX | cost users spend about 17 percent less on their claims versus those who don't use the app.
