Grimm & Co Information

When you walk in through the doors of Grimm & co, you will see a magical apothecary, open since 1148 (just before lunchtime), and serving all sorts of magical beings (wizards, giants, fairies, trolls...). We sell everything that magical beings may need - giant belly button cleaners (for clearing out stray chickens), ready-blended potions for the busy witch/wizard (a wide range, including Grandma's Scabs, Middle-Aged Vitriol or A Pinch of Happiness), human disguises, invisibility, and much much more. We became visible to humans in 2016. We are still getting used to our human customers and their little foibles. Mortals tend to find different uses for our products, for example, using our ready blended potions as bath salts?! Odd. However, there is a little more to this apothecary than meets the eye. Grimm & Co is a Yorkshire literacy charity with a mission to change lives, one story at a time. We provide exciting writing workshops to children and young people, aged 7-18, unleashing imaginations through the joyful discovery of stories. The workshops cover lots of different types of writing, from comedy writing and stories, to poems, plays and monologues. These workshops are all free to the child, and encourage their self-esteem, resilience and self-belief, raising literacy levels and building confidence. We aim to build the capacity of children and young people, helping them to discover and unleash their hidden talents, building confidence and self-esteem and recognising their individual skills and potential. Children and families can also take a book from our Forgotten Library or write a letter to a fairytale character (replies delivered by owl in 7-10 days), as well as taking part in various other spellbinding activities in the holidays. We have many volunteer roles at our centre, and offer full training and support for these roles - including administration, media, retail, caretaking, and more.
