Great Bay eLearning Charter School (H) Information

When GBeCS was conceived, eLearning was intended to indicate computer-based, technology-rich, and classrooms without walls. With the recent evolution of online school programming however, this name has become confusing to some. Our school is very much a classroom-based program and not an online program. As people are often confused by the term eLearning in our name, leading to the mistaken impression that our school is a virtual or online program, we have begun using Great Bay Charter School informally for everyday communication. While aspects of our program are internet-based, day-to-day personalized, classroom interactions are a critical component of who we are. Is GBeCS an "Alternative School?" As a public charter school, GBeCS is definitely a tuition-free alternative to larger, traditional public schools, but was not designed as a credit-recovery program or school focused upon addressing the needs of troubled middle or high school students. Our families have sought us out for a number of reasons and as a result our students have extremely diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds. We are very much a program aimed at preparing students for college and post-secondary programs.
