The Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary (MFGI) was established on 1st April 2012. This Instutite is the merger of the Geological Institute of Hungary (MÁFI) and the Eötvös Loránd Geophysical Institute of Hungary (ELGI). MFGI is the official successor of MÁFI. The new institute is supervised by the Hungarian Office for Mining and Geology. Update (July 2017): The Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary is terminated. The Mining and Geological Survey of Hungary was established on 1st July 2017 by the merger of the Hungarian Office for Mining and Geology and the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary based on the Governmental decision No. 1009/2017 as well as the Governmental decree No. 161/2017.
