Fort Roberdeau Information

Fort Roberdeau offers a variety of heritage education programs that are sure to interest and inspire young historians. But at the fort, history is just the beginning. We've learned that the natural environment around them very profoundly influenced much of the history of the people we study. It provided food, shelter, and nothing to both the prehistoric Native Americans who visited the site five thousand years ago and to the settlers who came about 220 years ago. The fort, its buildings, the barn and the farmhouse, as well as the woods, fields, and trails around the park are all featured in our interdisciplinary approach to heritage. This gives us a lot of flexibility in meeting the needs of every group. Research is a constant activity at the Fort, so students are often the first to learn of new information as the historians, archeologists, and other researchers uncover it. They get to be part of the discovery. They don't just learn history, they make it! We recommend that student tours include a visit to the Acorn Shop in the barn. All of the merchandise is carefully selected to reinforce the educational experience and is priced affordably (and students get to exercise their math skills). Educators will want to browse our excellent collection of publications, a great source of classroom materials to enrich your students' visit to the Fort.
