Follow the Great Harvest company page to learn more about real food, real people and real business.
We share stories about real bakery cafe owners, insights from 30+ years of teaching and supporting small businesses, plus tips about making healthy choices, especially with whole grains. Oh...and some great recipes to surprise your family and friends!
Great Harvest was born out of a single (and amazingly delicious) whole grain bread recipe, developed by our founders to feed their friends and family. Over time, we’ve branched out to develop an array of products with a nod to our roots. Our healthy bakeries are locally-famous for their great-tasting, slow-made-from-scratch food that goes far beyond our 5-ingredient Honey Whole Wheat. Today, you may get hooked on our addictively good sandwiches, salads, grain bowls, biscuits or cookies before you even purchase your first loaf of whole grain bread! Still, we approach the creation of all our food with the same basic principles that were baked into our first loaf of bread.
Each Great Harvest Bread Co. store is locally owned and operated. Owning a Great Harvest business is more than just a job -- it's a whole way of life and whole lot of fun. Each local franchise owner develops a unique product line to serve the needs and preferences of their customers. We are a Freedom Franchise where each owner has the freedom and flexibility to make their bakery cafe a one-of-a-kind neighborhood destination.

Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald created Levain Bakery in 1995, out of their passions for food, friendship, and hard work. Competitive swimmers and triathletes, Pam and Connie passed their workouts by engaging in passionate conversations about baking, which inspired them to open a small bread shop in 1995, which they named Levain Bakery.
One day, they created an ultimate chocolate chip walnut cookie to give them energy while training for a triathlon. They decided to sell a batch in their bakery, and they flew off the shelves. An icon was born. The cozy shop on West 74th Street became a neighborhood favorite and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world.
From the start, they baked everything fresh on-site each day and donated the day’s leftovers to charity each night, actions that remain solidly in since 1995. Levain Bakery now has a handful of locations in their favorite neighborhoods across the country with more to come, as well as e-commerce gift boxes.
In 1849, Isidore Boudin combined his skill of French bread baking with fermented wild yeast nurtured by the fog-cooled air. This magical combination created The Original San Francisco Sourdough™ – Boudin. The bread with its dark golden crust, soft, chewy center, and distinctive flavor soon became a local favorite.
We are San Francisco’s oldest continuously operating business. Much has changed since our boomtown beginnings, but one thing hasn’t: our commitment to honor and preserve the art and science of The Original San Francisco Sourdough™
