Elenac was a polyethylene joint venture between BASF and Shell that started business on 1 March 1998. The company marketed all the PE products of its two parent companies and those acquired through the take over of Hostalen (the former PE business of German giant Hoechst AG). Elenac merged with Montell and Targor in 2000 to form Basell Polyolefins.
