Edge Architects Information

Edge Architects Ltd. was founded by Principal Architects Matthew Bolen (BAS, M.ARCH, OAA, RAIC, CPHD) and Michael Trussell (BAS, M.ARCH, OAA). Matt and Mike first met as students at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture where they both completed the Undergraduate and Masters’ programs between 2002 and 2009. Matt and Mike decided to join forces in 2016 with the objective of creating a firm focused on achieving design excellence through innovation and collaboration. In the subsequent years since Edge’s founding, the duo has focused on building strong relationships with industry partners and assembling a team of likeminded individuals who share their vision. Edge's open concept studio is an inclusive environment that is charged with creativity and design discourse. INNOVATION Enthusiasm for innovation runs deep at Edge leading us to continually explore new building methods and materials in pursuit of realizing sustainable and innovative design solutions. Our team exclusively uses 3D building information modelling (BIM) software and employs sophisticated digital scanning equipment for documenting existing conditions. COLLABORATION We realize that innovation is impossible without collaboration, and as such we prioritize relationship building. Our approach to project delivery relies on integration of industry partners including clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, authorities having jurisdiction, and other stakeholders, in the design process towards optimal project results. PROFESSIONALISM We take our role as professionals seriously and always seek to uphold the Ontario Association of Architects Code of Ethics by acting with integrity, honesty, and professional competence. We endeavor to be respectful of the natural and cultural environments of the people and places that are influenced by our work.
