Jardan has always revolved around family.
As an Australian family-owned furniture business in operation since 1987, we know there is no machine that can truly replace the hand or the eye. Every Jardan piece is crafted to order in Melbourne, with care and precision, by hand.
We’re a design-led business, and believe that good design has a profound impact on our lives. That’s why we have established the Jardan Lab: a space for our growing team of designers to evolve their ideas, solve design problems, create prototypes, and move our collections through production. We built our name with sofas, chairs, tables and beds, but today our contemporary design thinking and world-leading production are capabilities are about a total living approach, incorporating lighting, textiles, and homewares.
We take inspiration from the relaxed, Australian way of life; expressing contemporary ideas through quality materials. Striving to reduce our environmental footprint and make our products sustainable throughout the entire lifecycle by using quality local materials, reducing waste, and making furniture that truly lasts.
In recent years, our manufacturing has grown to include state of the art machinery , increasing our scope to produce both residential and large scale commercial projects in Australia, Asia, Europe, and America. Modernising our manufacturing process is driven by our vision for quality and sustainability at scale, complimenting the handcrafted elements of our pieces with the efficiency of modern machinery.
With retail stores in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and online, our vision for contemporary Australian living has extended to every part of the process, from the way we conceptualise and design, right through to the way our customers experience our products in store.
In 2011, our co-founders, CEO Mark Coulter, CXO Adam McWhinney, NED Conrad Yiu, and founding CEO Brian Shanahan, decided to change the way people shopped for furniture and homewares. They unearthed a little known, but important Australian story. That of convicts William Temple (a carpenter) and John Webster (a carver and gilder) who were commissioned by Governor Lachlan Macquarie to make two fine chairs. As a result of their teamwork and craftsmanship, the pair were pardoned. This story about collaboration and empowerment inspired our name, Temple & Webster, with the powerful symbol at its core also showing all Australians that we can be there for whatever ‘&’ comes next in your life.
