Calgary Curling Club
The Calgary Curling Club is home to over 1000 members, 7 evening leagues, 20 associate leagues and an academy, making it one of the busiest curling clubs in Canada. Its central location makes it a hot spot for corporate curling events, and a popular spot for people interested in trying out the sport. Instructors at this club introduce the game of curling to hundreds of people every year.
The Weyburn Curling Club was established in 1903, although most of the curling in those days was done on the river. The original building was first located on Bison Avenue where the Weyburn Public Library is now situated. In 1962 the curling club moved to its existing location on the Weyburn fairgrounds. The building was constructed by the Weyburn Agricultural Society and is still owned by them today. The curling club rents the facility from the Agricultural Society from October 1st until April 15th each year. In the 1970's this thriving curling club had over 700 members. As times have changed, membership has slowly declined and today the membership is approximately half the 700 members from the 1970's. Since the late 1980's and early 1990's the curling club has hosted every Saskatchewan Curling Association sanctioned southern or provincial playdown . The proceeds from these playdowns has helped pay for extensive renovations to the curling club lobby, kitchen, lounge and ice surface area.
