C/O/N/E/C/T/A was founded in the autumn of 1976. The aim was to start an open dialogue in organizations that would go beyond the very rigid hierarchies typical at the time. Because this approach resulted in incredible increases in effectiveness and efficiency, the young C/O/N/E/C/T/A was very successful economically from the start. In the 1980s, there was a paradigm shift in counselling work. Triggers and catalysts were concepts from systemic family theory and therapy, along with sociological, biological and cybernetic systems theory. Psychiatrist Gianfranco Cecchin, sociologist Niklas Luhmann, biologist Humberto Maturana and, later, cyberneticist Heinz von Foerster became C/O/N/E/C/T/A teachers.
