Codify Art Information

Codify Art is a Brooklyn based collective of multi-disciplinary artists. Our mission is to create and produce work that foregrounds the visibility and voice to women and people of color. We are committed to assembling collaborators from diverse perspectives and disciplines. Together, We write. We design. We direct. We act. We illustrate. We choreograph. We sing. We even cook. To “codify art” is to create work that increases cultural intelligibility. Codifying contributes to an ever-evolving common vocabulary that can be shared between artists and viewers and viewers-as-artists. This communal language acknowledges individual backgrounds and identities while simultaneously bridging the disconnects between them. Our art intersects at the power of understanding and empathy. We provide a platform for people whose stories have existed in the shadows due to cultural barriers. We bring light to their ideas, passions and histories so that the larger community can engage with their work in one dynamic dialogue. Our goal is that this kind of inclusion and diversity will expand the community’s ability to relate and effect positive change. Codify Art is not just collective but a call to action.
