Codename One Information

Codename One is both a commercial company and an open-source platform for building native applications in Java from one codebase. On Apple platforms, native Win32 and native Linux, ParparVM translates reachable Java bytecode to C. Each platform’s toolchain then compiles and links a self-contained executable with no bundled JVM. The Win32 target produces x64 and Arm64 executables from one cloud build. A hello-world application is about 4 MB; the complete Codename One Initializr application is about 8 MB. The Linux target produces a single x64 or Arm64 ELF. It supports older distributions through GLIBC_2.17 and musl for Alpine. A non-trivial GUI application fits in about 5 MB. One project can also target iOS, Android, native macOS, browsers and PWAs, Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, Apple Watch, Wear OS, CarPlay and Android Auto. Portable GPU/3D, game, AR and VR APIs extend the same programming model. Codename One custom-renders its portable UI, so the interface you test ships with the application. Native interfaces and peer components provide direct access to platform SDKs and native views. The framework is free for commercial use.
