Circle in the Square Theatre School Information

Circle in the Square Theatre School (CITSTS) has been a non-profit 501 (c) 3 school of professional theater training since 1993, and is a member of the National Association of Schools of Theater. Over 5,000 actors have been trained since we started this work, in 1961. CITSTS is the only professional theater school located in a Broadway theater, and most of our student productions take place on the stage of Circle in the Square Theatre. We train 200 students annually in two-year theater and musical theater training programs, and we also have a summer training program. Tuition rates are among the lowest in New York City. Many of our graduates have gone on to professional careers on stage, television and film. Since 1995, CITSTS has operated an Outreach Program, through which last year we served over 9,000 New York City school children, senior citizens and adults with special needs. The Outreach Program includes three components: 1) Outreach Performances - 10 productions, 40 performances -- staged by experienced professional directors. These include: 1) Adapted multicultural folk tales for grades K-6. Classic Plays and Musicals for grades 7-12, senior citizens and adults with special needs. 2) PlayMaking residency - serves entire 3rd grade at PS 11, with student plays read on our Broadway stage. 3) Arts Education for Actors - Teaching artist training for select graduates of CITSTS.
