Central Washington Family Medicine offers an exceptional family medicine residency in a community setting; there are no other residency programs in the Yakima Valley. The program, established in 1992, is sponsored by Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. The Yakima community provides a rich learning environment for family physicians. Yakima is a regional referral center for Central Washington, with open heart surgery, dialysis,a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit and oncology services. The medical staffs of the two Yakima hospitals provide and teach state-of-the-art medicine, while the surrounding rural service area offers important opportunities which prepare graduates for smaller community medicine. Central Washington Family Medicine is a Federally Qualified Health Center clinic. The residency program is housed within the CWFM Family Medicine Center. Located about one mile from each of the hospitals, the center is the most important education and learning site for residents. The 30,392-square foot facility includes resident and faculty offices, classroom, library and administration offices. The clinic has 30 exam rooms, three minor procedure rooms, on-site lab, x-ray and pharmacy services. About half of the resident's time during the three years of training is spent in the community clinic. Each resident is responsible for the care of his/her panel of patients. The patient population represents the cultural, socio-economic and demographic diversity of the Yakima Valley. The residency is a training site for the University of Washington Medical School's required 3rd year Family Medicine Clerkship and an elective family medicine 4th year sub-internship. We also provide training for doctor of pharmacy, nursing and other medically-related students. Please contact us if you have further questions about the program, Yakima or the application process. We invite you to learn, serve and enjoy in Central Washington!
