Founded 60 years ago by pioneering Australian, Dr Catherine Hamlin and her late husband Dr Reg Hamlin, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is a healthcare network encompassing the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, five regional Fistula hospitals, Hamlin's Desta Mender rehabilitation centre, the Hamlin College of Midwives and over 90 Hamlin Midwifery Clinics across rural Ethiopia. Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is Ethiopian run and led with 550 Ethiopians employed across the network. To date the Hamlin team have treated more than 60,000 women and restored their lives and dignity. Hamlin is also relentless in preventing obstetric fistula in the first place through recruitment, training and deploying midwives to rural clinics where they are needed - working to ensure every woman has a safe delivery. The Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation is an independent charity established by Dr Catherine Hamlin to raise funds for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. Dr Catherine Hamlin was our Founder and Patron. Her life's work was to eradicate obstetric fistula forever, so that every woman could be free from these atrocious internal injuries.
