CAP21 Musical Theatre Conservatory & Theatre Company Information

Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21) was founded in 1993 as a home where theatre artists can bring their work to life and continue honing their skills in a collaborative environment. As a professional theatre company and musical theatre conservatory, CAP21 is dedicated to creating new work, developing new talent, and building new audiences. CAP21 replenishes the American musical theatre by training the next generation of performers and infusing the entertainment industry at large with talent and source material. The goal is to create programs that achieve substantial and lasting contributions to the future of the arts. CAP21 Conservatory offers six training programs for emerging musical theatre performers: a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts with Molloy College; a Two-Year Professional Training Program (transferable for credit at many colleges and universities); summer training for professionals and high school students (including a week-long intensive on college audition preparation); and a semester-long Industry Practicum and Showcase. Notable alumni include Matthew Morrison (Glee), Kristen Bell (Frozen), Nikki M. James (Tony Winner, The Book of Mormon), Lady Gaga, Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother), and hundreds of other acclaimed performers on Broadway and beyond. The CAP21 Theatre Company fuels the creation of new plays and musicals through its signature New Works Development process, an individualized mix of developmental offerings designed to bring out the best in each work and its creators. The Theatre Company presents two to three public productions each season, most frequently drawn from works that have been developed through its New Works Development process. The Theatre Company is a recipient of a GLAAD Award for its 2012 production of Southern Comfort, and for five consecutive years, the winners of the prestigious Jonathan Larson Award have come from the ranks of CAP21 alumni writers, winning for works that were developed with the organization.
