La société nouvelle maison de la ville de Tunis (SNMVT) connue sous la marque commerciale « MONOPRIX » est fondée le 18 août 1933, date d'inauguration du 1er magasin sise à rue Charles De Gaule-Tunis. MONOPRIX étant pionnier et leader sur le marché local, Il englobe 88 magasins, une plateforme de matières transformées (MMT) basée à Jbel Jloud et un dépôt situé à Mégrine. Voici les dates clées à retenir pour mieux nous connaître : 18 août 1933: Création de « La Société Nouvelle Maison De La Ville De Tunis MONOPRIX » par André Lévy-Despas. Ouverture du 1er Monoprix en Tunisie dans l’actuelle rue Charles de Gaulle. Ce sera le premier magasin à bénéficier d’un escalator (démonté en 1982). Mars 1937: A partir de cette date, l’enseigne entame son expansion en ouvrant des magasins à Bizerte (1937), Sfax (1944), Sousse(1945), Menzel Bourguiba (1954), Lafayette (1956), Monastir (1969), La Marsa (1970)... 1974 Décès d’André Lévy-Despas. Son épouse devient PDG de la SNMVT. 1992 Rachat de la SNMVT à la famille Lévy-Despas par le groupe de promotion immobilière Habib Kammoun. Mars 1995 Entrée de la SNMVT en bourse. Mai 2000 Rachat par « Le Groupe MABROUK » de la S.N.M.V.T. Novembre /Décembre 2006 Lancement des enseignes Monoprix Gourmet, Monoprix Kids et Monoprix Maison. Juillet 2009 La SNMVT signe un accord de partenariat avec le groupe français Monoprix et sa centrale d’achat. Juin 2012 Mise en place du nouveau concept textile de Monoprix France dans le magasin d'El Menzah VI Septembre 2014 La SNMVT signe un protocole d’accord avec Rayen Distribution en vue de l’acquisition de la majorité du capital de cette société exploitant l’enseigne Mercure Market. Trois points de vente sont en activité : 1 à Tunis, 1 à Sousse, 1 à Sfax.
