Biointerfaces Institute, McMaster University Information

The Biointerfaces Institute at McMaster University is a state-of-the-art facility implementing high-throughput research pipelines to investigate the nature of the biological/material interface, or biointerface. The overarching goal of the Institute is to understand how biological systems respond to the introduction of synthetic materials, and conversely, how an engineered interface responds to, or is compatible with, a biological system. For Academics: The Biointerfaces Institute provides users with access to state-of-the-art equipment for the production, screening and characterization of biosurfaces and biomaterials. Researchers can receive training to allow for “hands-on” usage of the infrastructure or can take advantage of the BI technical staff’s expertise to enable their work. For Industry: Partnering with The Biointerfaces Institute facilitates access to unique expertise and infrastructure for the development and commercialization of technologies related to novel biosurfaces and biomaterials. The BI team has developed a workflow capable of translating projects from the initial discovery to the early stage prototyping.
