Better Future International Information

The total number of orphans worldwide is estimated at 133 million by UNICEF, and the number is rapidly increasing due to the AIDS pandemic, natural disasters, low world health standards, immense poverty and food shortages. The mission of Better Future International is to create a better future for orphaned and vulnerable children. We accomplish this through the provision of nutritious food, healthcare, education and supportive services in a family environment so that children have the opportunity to not only survive, but thrive. Better Future believes that children benefit from living in a family environment. We utilize a Family Care Model, a sustainable, holistic, community-centered, and child development-appropriate approach to raising orphaned and vulnerable children at the lowest possible cost. The model applies the concept of kinship care while supporting extended family members´ ability to provide care for orphaned children. It is complimentary to cultures in many countries. Better Future International invites local networking and social fundraisers to engage members in support for orphaned and vulnerable children. Since 2005 Better Future has funded projects in 3 countries: Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Tanzania We accept donations for: Program overhead and general needs: food, healthcare, local facilities, teachers and staff Education: school uniforms, tuition, school supplies, vocational training Microgrants: start-up funds for income generating activities for caregivers Leadership of Better Future International consists of an all volunteer board of directors and in-country staff. Local staff in each country are paid local rates of pay.
