We’re a Belgian bakery and restaurant serving simple, wholesome and seasonal food. Le Pain Quotidien means “the daily bread” in French, and like our name suggests, we’re bakers at heart. Although our handmade, organic bread is how we got our start, we serve a variety of healthy options like organic coffee, pastries, eggs, tartines, soups, salads and desserts.
At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that food should be simple, nourishing and delicious. That’s why we source ingredients that are local or organic whenever possible. We also believe in the importance of eating a healthy, plant-based diet, so you’ll find many vegetarian or vegan options on our menu.
In 2019 PAUL is celebrating its 130 year anniversary, arriving at this impressive milestone via five generations dedicated to creating great-tasting bread. It’s a remarkable story of one family whose belief in traditional, labour intensive baking methods and insistence on top quality ingredients have created the largest bakery in France today, and taken the PAUL name to 28 other countries.
PAUL has always been a community bakery, bringing the authentic taste of real French baking to its local customers. Whether they meet at cafes to chat with friends over a coffee and a pastry, or take food home to enjoy with friends, PAUL is dedicated to sharing its passion for food with customers all over the world. The recipes for bread, viennoiserie and patisserie have been handed down through the family for over one hundred years. The bakers are true artisans, with years of training.
PAUL UK opened in London in 2000 with its flagship shop and restaurant in Covent Garden. There are now a total of 37 shops in the UK, primarily Central London locations. Expansion plans are undergoing. This expansion will provide great opportunities for more people to join the business and to develop a career as the company grows.
Today PAUL has more than 500 stores operating in 29 countries, including France, Holland, Japan, Kuwait and the USA. It is still owned by the founding Holder family.
About Petersham Nurseries
Petersham Nurseries, a local garden centre, was carved out of the Petersham House grounds in the 1970s. Shortly before the turn of the century, the business was bought by Gael and Francesco Boglione who have, with their family, lived in the adjoining Petersham House in Richmond since 1997. After extensive restoration works, the nurseries reopened in 2004, completely transformed.
Today visitors are invited to dine in the greenhouse restaurant (Petersham Nurseries Café), browse plants in the Nursery, find antiques and gifts in the Shop, or sit, wander and enjoy seasonal food and homemade cakes in the Teahouse.
In April 2018, the team opened Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden, which captures the unique spirit and rare beauty of its original home in Richmond and brings nature and elegance to the heart of central London. Comprising of The Petersham, La Goccia, La Goccia Bar, A Delicatessen and Wine Cellar - that provides an unparalleled lifestyle destination. Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden occupies 16,000 sq.ft, including a central courtyard, Floral Court.
True to the horticultural origins of the family business and the heritage of Covent
Garden’s past, there could not be a more fitting location for this venture into central London. Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, and responsibly sourced produce, Petersham Nurseries have created an unrivalled setting within this urban environment.
