The Berkshire Rowing and Sculling Society (BRASS), is dedicated to teach rowing in single sculls and crew boats for pleasure and competition. Since 1995, we have helped hundreds of people discover their ability to move a shell through the water. Initially known as the Berkshire Sculling Association, we taught people how to row in single shells on the Stockbridge Bowl. As the popularity of rowing grew, our teaching expanded to include scholastic teams, and the need for a boathouse became apparent. In late fall of 2000, a city owned building became available at Burbank Park on Onota Lake in Pittsfield. The association subsequently applied and gained approval for developing a community rowing program from the Pittsfield Park Commission and City Council. After a successful fund drive, the building was converted into a boathouse and shells and equipment purchased.
