Beautify Corpus Christi Assn Information

Beautify Corpus Christi Association is a local non-profit organization whose goal is to educate the public about beautification, recycling, litter prevention, graffiti abatement, trees and community stewardship. We are designated by the IRS as a 501c3 organization that serves as the Keep Texas Beautiful Affiliate and Keep America Beautiful for Corpus Christi. Our organization has been recognized for many years as a "Sustained Excellence" Winner for the Governor's Community Achievement Award and as a "Gold Star Affiliate" by Keep Texas Beautiful. In late 1967, then Chamber President Richard King III announced plans for a comprehensive program to increase the attractiveness of Corpus Christi to visitors during 1968with the first step being the affiliation of the Beautify Corpus Christi Association. John Olson, local architect, was name chairman. The impetus behind the formation of the organization was the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and the anticipated opening in 1968 of HemisFair in San Antonio. The state-wide organization, Beautify Texas Council, also came into being about this same time. In January 1968, the overall program was established, with emphasis on area-wide cleanup/paint up and fixup campaigns, anti-litter programs and business/industry/beautification. The association's first annual meeting was held in January 1969, with three points serving as direction that first year; clean-up, beautification and education/publicity. The Bylaws as adopted in 1968 reflected the purpose and aims of the Beautify Corpus Christi Association: *To serve as an advisory and a coordinating agency through which business and industry, government, and public and private organizations and individual citizens may work together to insure clean, attractive neighborhoods, beautify highways, parks, beaches and well-kept historical shrines and monuments. *To encourage the preservation of local natural beauty through public education. *To develop among residents of Corpus Christi and surrounding area a pride in their community ...
